History

The names of St. Michael Catholic School students were first entered on a register in September 1989 with Abbey Densmore as Principal. During the following academic year, while the building on McElderry Road was being constructed, classes were accommodated at four host schools including Mary Phelan, St. Paul, Holy Rosary and St. Patrick.

1989 - 1990 St. Michael students from Mary Phelan, St. Paul, Holy Rosary and St. Patrick sites gather on the St. Joseph Church steps for the first official St. Michael group photo.

1995 - 1996 Junior kindergarten is introduced to our school. Abbey Densmore says goodbye to St. Michael Catholic School and we welcome Joe Vadala as our principal.

1996 - 1997 Mrs. MacKenzie and Mr. Darnell retire and Miss McKechnie joins our staff as our first Vice-Principal.

2000-2001 On Oct. 25, We welcomed over 1500 guests to our official Open/Blessing ceremony to mark a new addition and renovations. Our addition includes eleven new classrooms, a science and technology laboratory, a computer hub, a library resource centre, a special education room, several break out rooms, a teachers resource centre and the St. Michael Catholic Centre.

Planning at St. Michael Catholic School involves everyone on staff, the members of the CSC and the support of our parent community. The School Planning Team is comprised of the principal, vice principal, the chairs of each division (primary, junior, intermediate, French) our librarian, our special education resource teachers and our pastoral team chair. The Planning Team makes decisions which affect the whole school and ensures all key players have an opportunity to express their opinions, based on discussions at divisional team meetings.
